Privacy
The short version: your classes and grades stay on your own device. Our server keeps only your account. Nothing is sold, and you can delete everything at any time.

Coursebird is in beta. This policy describes how Coursebird works today and will be kept up to date as it changes. If something here ever stops being true, we change the product or this page, never quietly.
What stays on your device
Your class data: assignments, due dates, exams, announcements, grades, your syllabus, the notes and files you add, your tasks, your chats and your check-offs. On a computer they're kept by the Coursebird app and in your browser; on a phone, by the Coursebird app on that phone.
What our server keeps
- Your account: your email address and a scrambled form of your password (a salted hash; we can't read your password).
- If you joined the waiting list: your email address, used only to tell you when Coursebird opens.
- Sign-in sessions: a random code in a cookie, so you stay signed in. It's removed when you sign out.
It doesn't keep your classes, grades or anything you read on your school's site.
How Coursebird reads your classes
Coursebird reads only what you can already see, with your own login, when you ask it to: the calendar link your school's course site gives every student, your classes' announcement links, and, through the Coursebird Sync browser extension, your grades, submission status, modules, syllabus, each course's home page and the list on its Files tab, and your course inbox's latest messages (shown to you in Coursebird, never sent to the AI). After a sync, the extension keeps the text of your lecture files and pages on your computer. It reads one module file when Coursebird's chat asks for it to answer you. It never sees your school password, never opens a quiz or exam or other students' work on your course site, and never submits, posts or changes anything.
Work in an outside courseware tool your class uses (such as Cengage MindTap) is opened only after you allow that site in your browser, then ask about that work in Coursebird's chat and confirm, every time. Opening it there can count as starting that activity.
AI answers
Many questions are answered straight from your syllabus and course pages, on your device. A question those can't answer, and Learn mode, can go to an AI model (Anthropic's Claude) when AI answers are turned on.
Every question goes with the schedule, module titles, what you attached, and a short card for each class it covers: a summary of the syllabus, with your standing in a class graded by criteria. A class's chat also sends its syllabus. Home's chat also sends your own tasks (title, class, date and minutes). On Auto, the default in Settings under AI access, a class's chat, or Home focused on one class, also sends that class's recent announcements and the instructions of assignments due around now.
When it needs more, the AI can ask to read a module file or page, a file the course home page links to, your scores in a class, announcements, an assignment's instructions and the files they link to, or your own notes and files. On Auto, Coursebird sends these without asking each time; on Ask each time, it asks you in the chat first.
Anthropic doesn't use it to train its models. The AI writing check runs on your own computer and sends nothing.
For each AI request, Coursebird's server logs counts and timings only: the model, Ask or Learn, the round, whether the AI could ask to read more, why it stopped, how much text went in and out, and how long it took. For a request the AI service turns down, it also logs the status, the service's error type, the first words of its error message and the request's id. It never logs your question, your course material or the answer.
This website
This site sets no cookies unless you sign in, shows no ads and uses no advertising trackers. If we add visitor counts, they'll come from a privacy-respecting tool that doesn't track you across sites, and this page will say which.
Nothing is sold
We don't sell or rent your data, and we don't use it for ads. We share it with no one, except the AI provider above when you ask it a question, or if the law requires it.
Deleting everything
Delete your account in Settings and your email and password are removed from our server at once. Your class data is on your device, so it goes when you remove the app or clear its data.
Students under 18
Coursebird is made for college students. If you're under 13, please don't create an account.
